Sustainability has been an integral part of the Konica Minolta DNA for many years. We take our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment extremely seriously in our mission to go carbon neutral and beyond.
A focus has been on lowering energy consumption and substituting CO2-emitting sources with green energy, shifting towards the use of alternatives to reduce carbon emissions and offer sustainable printing.
Since 2018, Konica Minolta’s entire European headquarters has been carbon neutral. All emissions, from printers and energy consumption to staff commuting and business travel, are offset.
One specific way we help our customers in office and production printing environments to offset unavoidable CO2 emissions is through an environmental reduction programme to provide sustainable, carbon neutral printing.
We offer this carbon neutral service at reasonable prices to a printer. Whereas we pay for the manufacturing and transportation of the printer, the printing customer covers the cost of compensating for the emissions produced while the device is being used for printing. The customer receives an emissions certificate stating how much CO2 has been saved to reduce carbon footprint, as evidence of the carbon offsetting.
Our carbon offsetting emissions service is called ‘Enabling Carbon Neutrality Programme’ and is run together with
Climate Partner towards climate protection, thereby ensuring the transparency and resilience of the programme. The objective is to give office environments and professional print providers an easy way to offset carbon emissions that occur during printing.
The benefits to our customers of doing this and targeting carbon neutral include fulfilling their own environmental targets, reducing their carbon footprint, proving their commitment to protecting the environment and improving corporate image.
Carbon neutrality is a vital part of our vision. By promoting digital transformation (DX) and sustainable print management solutions, we are accelerating our efforts to work with more companies to reduce emissions. Not only our customers, but also our business partners, with the aim of reducing environmental impacts more extensively, perhaps even using recycled paper or renewable energy.
Together with ClimatePartner, we support a Gold Standard-certified carbon offset project using wind energy in Vader Piet, Aruba, in the Caribbean Sea. By utilising the island's wind resources, the carbon neutrality project reduces emissions of greenhouse gases by approximately 150,000 t of CO2 each year. Since the Enabling Carbon Neutrality programme was launched in 2015, its participants have compensated for more than 16 million kg of CO2. This figure includes customers throughout Europe, several events and fairs, and internal compensation.
We are regularly listed among the global 100 most sustainable corporations in the world and, as one example, we have recently received the highest level in EcoVadis Sustainability Ratings.
With the establishment of our long-term management vision and our digital transformation strategy for print production, we have committed to achieving carbon minus status ahead of schedule, by 2030 instead of 2050.
The five simple steps to a successful carbon offsetting solution with Konica Minolta are as follows:
1
Apply for the Carbon Neutrality programme
2
Print as usual with Konica Minolta devices
3
Konica Minolta calculates the total CO2 emissions of each device over its lifecycle
4
Konica Minolta compensates for those emissions with a carbon offset project
5
Customers are issued with an emissions certificate stating the CO2 emissions saved
